Some Things to Think About When Purchasing Native Plants: • The originating biogeoclimatic zone • The mature size of the plant • The elevation: sub-montane to montane to alpine • The exposure: full sun to partial and full shade • The soil moisture: dry to moist to wet • The slope/drainage and soil texture: water-receiving or shedding; organic to mineral • The soil nutrients: nutrient poor, medium, rich • The soil acidity: acid to alkaline The NPSBC encourages the use of native plants propagated in nurseries from collected seeds and cuttings.
