Grassland Ecology & Identification
Registrations Now Being Accepted.
The objective of this workshop is to gain familiarity with native grassland ecosystems, grass taxonomy and grass plant identification. The workshop is designed as an introduction for folks that have no experience with grasses, and as a refresher for those that do.

Digital Photography –
An Introduction and Beyond
This class with professional photographer, Ron Long, is suitable for anyone who is interested in or has questions about digital photography. There will be a lecture followed by a discussion that will directly address your questions. The class is being held as a fund raiser for the NPSBC's South Coast Native Plant Study Group.
When: Wednesday, March 1, 2006, 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Where: Lecture Theatre, GF Strong Rehabilitation Center, 4255 Laurel Street, Vancouver. The location is very close to Oak and King Edward St.

Instructor: Ron Long has been a photographer at Simon Fraser University for thirty-six years. For some thirty years Ron has had a parallel career in teaching photography. This unique combination of experience makes Ron's classes very beneficial to participants and classes are suitable to all levels of experience. Ron has created the largest personal collection of BC plant photographs in existence and this class will address the application of digital cameras to plant photography.

This annual one-day educational event - open to the public - will feature NPSBC members Eva Antonijevic, Terry Taylor and Ross Waddell in four sessions on native plant gardening: The Native Plant Movement, Native Plants in Nature, Growing Native Plants and Native Garden Design. Dr. Wilf Nicholls, founding NPSBC member and current director of the Memorial University Botanical Garden in St. John's will follow, speaking on Botanical Goings-on in the Far East (of Canada).
Together with these educational sessions, there will be books, plants and compost on exhibit and for sale; a terrific raffle; and complementary tea and coffee. Going Native! will provide a unique opportunity for new or experienced gardeners to learn more about using native plants in their gardens; to purchase plants from specialty native nurseries; and to check out the best books and latest information on native plants and native gardens in our province.

Botanical Illustration in Watercolour
This workshop will be the last opportunity to study under award-winning botanical artist, Lyn Noble. It will be the final class before retirement for this wonderful and inspiring teacher. For the beginner or more advanced student of botanical art, this hands-on course should not be missed. The two-day workshop will briefly touch on basic botanical art technique, materials, sketching, and watercolour painting. We will work from live specimens, which will be supplied. There will be individual instruction.
Where: The Pavilion in the UBC Botanical Gardens, Vancouver When: Saturday April 8 – Sunday, April 9, 2006, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Instructor: Lyn Noble is a Canadian botanical illustrator whose paintings of North American wildflowers have been shown locally and abroad, including Britain's Royal Horticultural Society where they received several top medals. Her work has been published in various books and magazines.
